TAKE ACTION! What would YOU do with $220 Million a Year?

You’re invited to give 15 minutes of your time to FREE! We are creating a video for the Governor to tell him how we want him to spend the $220 million a year that will be saved by repealing the Rockefeller Drug laws. We need Governor Paterson to reinvest that money to combat the ROOT CAUSES of the drug crisis. Usually these budget decisions are made behind closed doors, and could be happening while we speak. But this year, before April 1st, we want him and the other Senators in Albany to hear our suggestions.

Since 90 % of the money spent and earned on drug related prison charges in NY has mostly been at the expense of poor communities and Black and Latino communities in New York City, FREE! believes that those resources must be invested into improving education, health care and creating livable wage JOBs for the families in these neighborhoods.

We are also aware that in upstate New York, many counties fear reductions in the prison industry, because they see prisons as the center of their economy. And we understand what it means to have no employment prospects. We want to see these areas transformed to Green economies that are healthy for ALL New Yorkers.

If you can come out for 15 minutes on Saturday, March 21st to give the Governor your TWO CENTS about how the budget should look this year, we will send you more information that can help you prepare to participate.

The interview will be very short and sweet, just answering the question “What would you do with $220 million a year” if you were the Governor of NYS. We are looking for responses that are thoughtful, and specific to prisons, as this is where the money is coming from and has been spent.
